Pancreas

What is pancreas?



Pancreas is a flattened gland which is the most vital part of the digestive organ in vertebrates. It is located behind the stomach, in the abdominal cavity which produces hormones like insulin, glucagon, pancreatic polypeptide etc.


 The most important role of the pancreas is to produce pancreatic juice that helps to further digestion and absorption of foods after it has left the stomach. This endocrine gland is about 15 cm long. Insulin that is produced from the pancreas helps to regulate blood sugar level.So, the pancreas is one of the most important secretory glands among the digestive organs.
